Thu, 12/29/2011 - 15:16 — Anonymous If you miss the Rose Parade, you can
still be part of the Tournament of Roses festivities. After all the work that

away right after the parade. So for your viewing pleasure, the works of

NARM Gets You into 400+ Museums

Sun, 12/18/2011 - 22:42 — Anonymous Still looking for that unique holiday
gift? For museum lovers, membership in a local museum can can come with free
admission to museums across the country. Through a program called North
American Reciprocal Museums (NARM), if you contribute to one member museum,
you receive free or reduced admission and museum store discounts at all
member museums in the United States and Canada. So, if you're a contributing
member of the Cincinnati Art Museum, The Holocaust Memorial Museum in San
Antonio, the American Folk Art Museum in New York or the Textile Museum of
Canada in Toronto, you could get in free to 18 Los Angeles and Orange County
museums. And if you support any of those 18 Southern California museums, you
get the same benefit at over 400 museums in the US and Canada. In some areas,
the reciprocal relationship is not valid for museums local to the member
museums. The Southern California museums do not appear to have this
restriction, so members of the *Museum of Latin American Art* can get in to
the *Bowers Museum* or the *Skirball Center* and vice versa, but special
ticketed exhibits may be excluded....Read Full Post

Fela! Raises the Roof at the Ahmanson

Thu, 12/15/2011 - 21:09 — Anonymous Taking a break from all things holiday,
I joined an enthusiastic audience for the opening of the musical */Fela!/* at
the Ahmanson Theatre. *Sahr Ngaujah* was riveting as the Nigerian singer and
musician responsible for creating the 60s Afro-Beat music that seeded today's
Hip Hop beats. It took a few minutes for the crowd to buy into the audience
participation required of us as attendees at Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's concert at
the Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria, on the eve of the singer's departure for
America, but eventually everyone was on their feet trying to follow the dance
instruction. Pounding Tony-award-winning dance numbers alternate with Fela's
contemplative storytelling and audience ribbing, working the crowd like a
pro....Read Full Post

Give Quality Time and Experiences for the Holidays

Wed, 12/14/2011 - 22:44 — Anonymous Let's face it. Most of us have way more
stuff than we need. And even if that sweater or video game ends up being a
favorite, it has a very limited lifespan. On the other hand, the memories you
make sharing a once-in-a-lifetime experience, or the memories that your loved
one will have of a fabulous experience you give them, last forever.  An
added bonus is that you can do your holiday shopping online right up to the
last minute, since in most cases, there's nothing to ship. Do go ahead and
get a snazzy card or box to package your confirmation email or printable
voucher or certificate for that little value added touch....Read Full Post

Las Posadas on Olvera Street

Tue, 12/13/2011 - 16:55 — Anonymous Los Angeles isn't all Tinseltown. There
are also deep Mexican roots, most often celebrated at LA's historic heart, El
Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Site at Olvera Street, the oldest
neighborhood in town. During the Christmas season, Olvera Street hosts the
Mexican tradition of *Las Posadas*. For nine nights leading up to Christmas,
Las Posadas recreates the procession of Mary and Joseph from inn to inn. On
Olvera street, volunteers dressed for the parts are followed by children,
adults and animals, stopping at each merchant shop to exchange a singing
story of asking for shelter and being rejected. The procession ends with hot
cocoa, pan dulce for everyone....Read Full Post
